Sinopse

In episode 007 of the No Harm health and safety podcast, host Marvin Polis shadows some of the crews working at a recent turnaround at the Shell Scotford complex. Shell Scotford consists of an upgrader, oil refinery, chemicals plants and a carbon capture and storage facility. It’s one of North America’s most efficient, modern and integrated hydrocarbon processing sites, converting oilsands-derived bitumen into products like gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and feedstock for the plastics industry. Turnarounds are huge maintenance events where some portions of the plant are shut down and a large number of employees and contractors descend upon the plant to replace and repair various infrastructure. Turnarounds are expensive, complex and require keen attention to safety. The Adopt a Crew initiative was conceived prior to one of their recent turnarounds as Shell acknowledged that building personal relationships is essential to a culture of caring and keeping everybody safe on site during this huge maintenance event.
