Evangelical Disciple

Homily from the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Jesus, our King, came to restore his people by suffering for us and serving us. He placed all his trust in the Father and would not allow worldly influences to penetrate that trust. He knew his duty and fulfilled it to the max. He told his disciples to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him (Mk 8:34) along the way to Calvary and into eternal life. Most often, taking up our cross is nothing more than fulfilling the daily duties the Lord has given us by way of everyday life.
