All stimulants work by increasing dopamine levels in the brain. Dopamine is a brain chemical associated with pleasure, movement, and attention. Concerta belongs to the group of medications called central nervous system stimulants. It is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD and narcolepsy which is an uncontrollable desire for sleep or sudden attacks of deep sleep. Concerta increases attention and decreases restlessness.
