When the Iranian Revolution ended her dream of becoming a judge, Nasim Alikhani came to New York City in 1983 to build a new one. More than 3 decades later, after home-cooking by heart the food she loved and left behind, Nasim opened her first restaurant, Brooklyn’s Sofreh, to rave reviews last year. She was 59. Iranian-born journalist and Top Chef judge Nilou Motamed, an authority herself on Persian cuisine, sat down with Nasim in her home, to talk about their immigrant experience & the extraordinary food and hospitality of Iran.
