He also shows how slavery affects the natural resources and ecosystems that sustain life on earth, such as forests, soils, water, and wildlife, calling it the "slavery footprint" of consumption. Bales also explores the concept of intersectionality, which is the idea that different forms of oppression and discrimination, such as race,
