Caleb Foster is back! The Duke Blue Devils guard discussed teaming up next season with Tyrese Proctor on the latest episode of The Brotherhood Podcast, and we react to it on DBR Bites Episode 44! We hinted that it was coming due to the show notes in The Brotherhood Podcast’s preview on YouTube referencing it, but Caleb Foster will return for his sophomore season to pair up with Proctor in the backcourt. It is with a heavy heart, but with clear eyes, that the Duke Basketball Roundup says goodbye to Jared McCain, Kyle Filipowski, and Jaylen Blakes. Flip and Mac both declared for the NBA draft on Friday and seem fated to go somewhere around the late lottery. They stand to make millions of dollars and leave behind a legacy of inspiring play that led Duke to great heights. And Jaylen Blakes, who has performed the remarkable feat of graduating from Duke in just three years, now enters the NCAA transfer portal in search of a larger role on a different team in his final year of eligibility. We will miss all three of them oh so much and be rooting for them to succeed beyond their dreams wherever they go next. The Blue Devils get some great news for the 2024-25 campaign as it has been revealed that point-guard Tyrese Proctor will return to Durham to captain what is widely expected to be the preseason #1 team in the land. The Duke Basketball Roundup Podcast team are positively giddy with excitement over getting another year of an elite player like Proctor and they really cannot wait to watch him tossing lobs to what looks like a super bouncy Blue Devil team next season. Donald and Jason come together to celebrate Mark Mitchell as he has entered his name in the transfer portal. Jason and Donald discuss what it means for Mark Mitchell and for Duke and how this is a huge loss for the team but could mean a better setup for Mark. It is time for the Duke Basketball Roundup to reflect on the season in the way they do every year, by looking back at how awful the guys are at predicting the stats of the Blue Devil team. And, as as special treat, Sam Klein is back in the saddle to guide us through the results of the annual stats game. While the DBR podcast crew may have good sources and compelling insights, the stat game shows that the guys are just hysterically bad at some of their projections for the season. It wasn't supposed to end this way. NC State knocked the Blue Devils out of the tournament, ending the season for a club that seemed poised to make a magical run to the Final Four. This simply wasn't Duke's day as the team suffered one of their worst shooting performances of the entire year and State ran away and hid on the backs of DJ Burns and DJ Horne. The DBR Podcast has a full breakdown of everything that happened in the contest from the good (like Jared McCain and Sean Stewart) to the bad (like the shooting woes and Duke's inability to get a stop in the second half). We’re still buzzing after Duke’s thrilling win in the Sweet 16 over the Houston Cougars, and we do a full recap on Episode 618! Branham is the voice of Cougars Basketball and has had the best seat in the house this season for Houston. So, he has a great perspective of what has made Houston so successful this season, their first in the Big XII. How sweet (16) it is! Duke walloped the Dukes of James Madison in a game that was dominated by the Blue Devils from the opening minutes. The Duke Basketball Roundup is going to have a full recap in their usual style tomorrow, but Jason and special guest Scott Rich wanted to hop on right away after the game was over to give a little instant reaction to the victory. Obviously, the story of the game was Jared McCain raining threes from all over the floor, breaking James Madison's spirit but the podcast guys also have tons of praise for Duke's overall effort, especially on the defensive end of the floor. We don’t like these episodes, but we have to do it. The ACC Tournament ended in abrupt fashion last night with Duke’s loss to NC State, and Jason and Donald discuss what went wrong on Episode 610. Donald was at the game and after speaking with pride about the many listeners who he met in DC, he and Jason have to discuss the product on the floor and how it was not a great performance. The many headlines we received reflected some of our feelings about the game. There was some good in this game, namely the play of Kyle Filipowski as well as the play of Mark Mitchell.
